Based on German studies that indicated the presence of huge amounts of offshore oil and gas, Lebanon and other countries in the region decided to invest this revolutionary fortune. However, the demarcation of maritime borders between these countries has become a key issue that can lead to major conflicts.

Looking at the case of Lebanon, the political chaos within local political parties in addition to foreign pressures pushed former Prime Minister Fuad Siniora to make unprecedented concessions in this regard.

Siniora unconstitutionally dispatched a civil servant to Cyprus in 2007 to sign an agreement regarding maritime borders, admitting the map that claims Lebanon’s maritime border is at Line 1 and conceding huge national resources.

In 2012, US Special Envoy to Syria and Lebanon Frederic Hof offered to temporarily divide the disputed area, giving Lebanon an additional 490 square kilometers. However, Lebanese officials have rejected this proposal which deprives Lebanon of most of its rights.

Then, a long negotiation took place between Lebanon and the United States which would have negotiated a solution to the Lebanese-Zionist dispute before the Lebanese army was instructed to engage in an indirect negotiation with the Israeli enemy.

The Lebanese army has prepared a comprehensive proposal that reflects the official position and secures Lebanon’s rights to Line 29 after US-Zionist delegations long insisted on imposing Line 23 which gives the entire Karish oil field to the Israeli occupiers .

In this respect, the Zionist negotiators relied on the island of Tekhelet, which is just a simple rock that disappears during the winter season, to delimit the “Israeli” borders. However, according to a British map, published by the British Hydrographic Centre, the Lebanese border is at line 29 and Tekhelet can never be considered an island.

Moreover, the demarcation of the Lebanese border must begin with the last territorial position in Ras Naqoura, and not with someone else behind. The following map shows how the admission of the last territorial position further guarantees the rights of Lebanon.

Thus, Lebanon has the right to obtain its portion of the Karish field which lies on both the Lebanese and Palestinian sides of the border, and the Greek ship, Energean Power, does not have the right to operate in a contestable area.

Hezbollah Secretary General Sayyed Hasan Nasallah stressed on Thursday that the Lebanese Resistance party is committed to defending the country’s maritime wealth, warning the Israeli enemy that “all options are on the table” in this regard. .

In a televised address via Al-Manar, Sayyed Nasrallah said the Resistance is capable on many levels (military, logistical, security and individual) of preventing the Israeli enemy from extracting gas and oil from the disputed area.

His eminence said the Greek company operating the ship that reached the disputed area of Karish is a partner in Israel’s aggression against Lebanon’s maritime wealth, warning the company that it bears “full responsibility” for the fate of the ship.
