A cool change is occurring today over the South Island bringing rain or showers, fairly steady further north, but rain arrives over Wellington overnight.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato and Bay Of Plenty
Partly cloudy sky, possibility of isolated showers especially in the late afternoon / evening. Light winds and sea breezes in the afternoon.
Western North Island (including central North Island)
Partly cloudy, a chance of a shower or two otherwise mostly dry. The rain of the night moves in Kapiti. Winds west to northwest.
East of the North Island
A mix of sun and cloud, rain overnight for Wairarapa. Light winds in the afternoon east to northeast winds over Hawkes Bay for a period of time.
Cloudy, a few spits or showers in the morning then clearing. Rain overnight as the blustery northerly winds turn to the south.
Marlborough & Nelson
Rather cloudy, a few showers around Nelson, northerly to northwesterly winds. Evening rain as the winds turn south.
Some morning sun is possible then expect clouds to thicken, rain develops in the late afternoon or evening as the southerly winds cool down.
Patchy rain, the rain may be a little more persistent on Buller. The rain subsides in the evening for Fiordland and subsides elsewhere overnight. Winds from the north.
Southland and Otago
Showers develop in the morning over the Southland with a passage of southwest winds, dissipating in the evening. Otago is dry in the morning, then rain develops in the afternoon, emerging overnight.
