Redrawing electoral maps, a ploy to disempower the Muslim majority in the IOK: Speakers
Speakers at a webinar said the demarcation of assembly segments in Illegally Indian Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) aims to disenfranchise and disempower the majority Muslim population.
The webinar, organized by the Kashmir Institute of International Relations (KIIR) in collaboration with the World Conference of Muslims titled “Demarcation of Assembly Segments in the IIOJK: Another ploy to disempower the Muslim majority” was attended and addressed by Dr. Raja Qaiser Ahmed, Assistant Professor, Quaid-e-Azam University, Islamabad; Sheni Hamid, Senior International Policy Strategist; Naila Altaf Kiyani, lawyer Parvez Ahmed Shah, leader of APHC-AJK and others. The event was moderated by KIIR Chairman, Altaf Hussain Wani.
In his opening remarks, Altaf Hussain Wani said revamping electoral maps to reduce the political centrality of Muslims in Jammu and Kashmir had long been a dream project for far-right parties, including the BJP.
Redrawing electoral maps, he said, is part of India’s systematic colonization campaign to subjugate the Muslim majority, minimize its role in decision-making and provide political mileage to the BJP to enable it to form a government in the region so that it can legalize and legitimize the controversial August 5, 2019 decision and subsequent actions it has taken so far in Kashmir.
