A cold front is on its way to Massachusetts, accompanied by snow.

The National Weather Service predicts the cold front will move through the region Wednesday night, resulting in a period of snow or rain changing to snow Thursday morning.

Precipitation will primarily be seen south of Boston, “Hartford Line to Worcester to Boston.

“Accumulations will range from an inch or two for most locations, but locally up to 3″ is possible in the hilly terrain of adjacent CT, RI and MA.”

The service says the snow will be followed by very cold weather on Thursday evening, with southern New England expected to experience sub-zero wind chills. On Friday, Cape Cod and parts of the south shore could see ocean-effect snow showers.

The service’s forecasters are watching for a possible coastal or ocean storm from Saturday to Sunday and are warning that below normal temperatures are expected to continue through the middle of next week.

Below are six maps predicting the amount of snow that could fall with the arrival of the cold front on Thursday.
